On the 31st of December,2017 the  hardworking Cameroon Minister of Defence; Beti Assomo, paid a working visit to Manyu Division, especially to the villages where heavy battles were fought between the Cameroon defense forces and a handful of Ambazonia guerrilla fighters.

After thoroughly assessing and monitoring the situation on the ground, Minister Beti Asomo, declared that the secessionists have been defeated and that the refugees in Nigeria; who fled the violence perpetrated by the secessionists, should return to their homes and continue living in peace and harmony. In addition to that, Beti Asomo also called on the Manyu Traditional Rulers Association (which had earlier denounce the secessionists and their activities via their 13th of December,2017 declaration ) to continue collaborating with the military personnel as well as the forces of law and order to maintain the peace in the region.

In confirmation of the above fact, Colonel Badjeck Didier who is in charge of Communication for the Cameroon Minister of defence also told BBC Africa that after the Defence Minister paid a visit to the deserted villages in Manyu Division, he can also confirm that the area is secure and he is urging the citizens who live there to return to their homes and continue living their lives as before (without any fear).

As a reminder, Many villagers fled Manyu division and are currently in Nigeria as refugees, after the government of Cameroon decided to launch a fierce battle against a handful of pro secession guerrilla fighters. Some villagers left out of free will in order to avoid being caught in a cross fire or used as human shields. The SDO of Manyu also urged villagers situated at the epicenter (i.e. the areas where the Ambazonia guerilla where operating) to evacuate in order to avoid civilian casualties. We can estimate that about 4000 people have fled Manyu division since September 22nd,2017.

One of our colleague (based in Nigeria) who has visited the Cameroon refugees in Nigeria, said they are living in deplorable conditions and in starvation (as their daily rations of food has been greatly reduced with increase in the number of refugees).

Due to the above facts, this declaration by the Cameroon Defense minister would be received with great joy or jubilation. The refugees in Manyu don,t only miss their homes but also their farm lands; which is full of unhavested cash crops like Cocoa, coffee and the likes.

We are closely following up the situation in Manyu. We shall inform you about the return of the refugees to their fatherland. Thanks for reading.

This is Mwalimu Solo reporting from the Solowayne news headquarter in Limbe.
