After a longggg wait, some University Students in Cameroon will start receiving the laptops promised by President Paul Biya in November, 2017. The Government of Cameroon released this information through the CRTV 7:30 news.
Jacques Fame Ndongo, the minister of higher education, said “the first 80,000 laptops (out of the 500,000 laptops), will be distributed in November”.
It should be noted that only 80,000 laptops have been manufactured so far by the Sichuan Telecom Construction and Engineering Co. Ltd (the Chinese company in charge of manufacturing the 500,000 laptops). The manufacturing of the remaining 420,000 laptops still continues in Shenzhen, China.
Apart from the students of the 2016-2017 academic year which were to benefit from the programme, those of the 2017-2018 academic year will also receive the laptops as well. However only University students who have completed the required online registration process will be eligible to receive the laptop.
As a reminder, this 500,000 laptop was promised to the University students since Feb. 10, 2016. Nevertheless its better to be late than never.
